When Is Fall Break at Disney?

Most school fall breaks fall between late September and late October, with the majority clustering in mid-October. Disney World's crowd levels during this period range from moderate to very heavy — Columbus Day weekend and the weeks surrounding it are some of the busiest of the entire year.

What to Pack for Disney in the Fall

Orlando in October is still warm — expect highs in the mid-80s early in the month, dropping to the low-70s by late October. Mornings and evenings cool down noticeably. Rain is less common than summer but still possible any afternoon.

What to Wear at Disney World

Comfort is the only dress code. But there are a few things worth knowing.

Planning Your Days

Rope drop is everything

The first 90 minutes the park is open have dramatically shorter wait times for popular rides. Being at the gate before it opens is the single most effective way to do more with less waiting. Sleep in later in the day, not the morning.

Lightning Lane

Disney's Lightning Lane system lets you pay to skip the standby line on select attractions. During fall break crowds, this is worth it for top-tier rides like TRON, Guardians of the Galaxy, and ROTR. Purchase as early in the morning as possible — the best return times sell out within the first hour.

The mid-day break

Parks are most crowded between 11am and 5pm. If you have resort hotel access, heading back for a swim and a nap, then returning for the evening is a classic strategy that keeps everyone happier — especially with young kids.
